Marcus Ehning passes on his knowledge at an exclusive training course
“At the end of the day, we all want the same thing: a happy horse that enjoys doing sports with us,” emphasizes Marcus Ehning, three-time winner of the Rolex Grand Prix at the CHIO Aachen. The successful show-jumper, who is known for his fine riding style, will be giving an exclusive training course at the Aachen Soers in September.
Marcus Ehning normally brings his own horses and a whole crew with him when he comes to Aachen. As a three-time winner of the Rolex Grand Prix, he is familiar with the spotlight in which the great athletes stand at the CHIO Aachen. From September 17th to 19th, 2024, however, the Westphalian will return to the world-famous showgrounds in a different function - without horses and without a crew, just him alone, in the role of a trainer. This is because Marcus Ehning will then be giving an exclusive training course at the CHIO Aachen CAMPUS.
“For me, this is almost more exciting than when I ride a course,” revealed Ehning, explaining: “Before the test, I know which horse I'm sitting on. At the exclusive training course, I don't know who is coming and what exactly to expect.” The 50-year-old is hoping for good, trained horses and talented riders so that he can pass on as many skills as possible to them.
The participants can of course expect professional show jumping training during the three-day course, but Marcus Ehning considers “the whole thing”, as he calls it, to be at least as important. “In the end, it's not decisive whether someone does five or six canter strides somewhere between the jumps, but the chemistry between horse and rider has to be right. They must try to become a unit in order to perform well - regardless of the level.”
To convey this idea, Ehning believes that the CHIO Aachen CAMPUS approach of bringing together prominent riders as trainers with somewhat less experienced riders is important. “In the end, we all want the same thing: a happy horse that enjoys doing sports with us. That's why it's good if we can give one or two tips on how rider and horse can become an even better team.”
In addition to training with Marcus Ehning, the exclusive training course includes further content such as a workshop on course construction, seat training on the equestrian simulator and fitness training with a sports physician. The package includes the accommodation costs for a horse in the stables of the CHIO Aachen CAMPUS, overnight stays in the hotel and meals.
